Origin of
torsional eye movements

- riMLF burst neurons cause the contraction of eye
muscles which not only rotate the eye vertically
but also torsionally.
- The two sides are not equal.
- riMLF neurons on the right side act on muscles
with a clockwise (CW) action (as seen in the
figure).
- Those on left act on muscles with
counterclockwise (CCW) action.
- Neurons in the INC tonic produce a tonic
component which keeps the eye position deviated
from center both vertically and torsionally
